Frankenstein
A Look Into A Creatures Morals
I will be writing
about Frankenstein’s monsters’ behavior and how he was impacted by the world
around him when he was created. I will also touch briefly on how the book is
Gothic.
In the beginning when Victor Frankenstein had created his
monster I think that Victor did not realize what he was in for because of his
actions to come. When Victor had run away after giving life to his creation I
believe this had started a very negative mindset or thought into the creature. Whenever
someone runs away from someone that has been brought into the world, that
creature or human has a very hard time adapting to its surroundings and making decisions
that are good. However, we read that when the monster left, had no vile
intentions to harm or kill anyone. He even traveled alone and found a family
that was very important to him and he had watched them through a crack in a
cottage and quietly learned how to write and understand how to speak and act
like a human.
Now even though the monster had taken it upon himself to
better himself by learning and attempt to be kind to others like the blind man
in the De Lacey family, not everyone liked the monster because of his look,
size, and appearance. So, because of this, many people had pushed him away and
for example when he was with the older man and the monster and him gained trust
and learned about love, friendship and loyalty, it ended soon afterwards. When
the other younger family came back and saw the creature they drove him out the
house with violence.
Now you can imagine what this does to the creature who was
only trying to help himself and trying to be kind to be kind to others. So,
when later in the book he gets revenge on the family and Victor people think
that the creature is cruel and not kind. Well I say otherwise because of all
turmoil the creature went through. When people can’t accept someone and
understand what they go through before understanding someone’s life then the
monster only knows to hurt others when they treat him like a monster and want
to hurt him. It all comes down to “Treat others how you want to be treated!”
The book shows Gothic characteristics because of the all the
dark moments in the book and the atmosphere of the castle, woods, and attire of
the era. Even the place that the monster was created is dark and has a lot of
metal and contraptions to create the monster.
